At the steering committee meeting last week, we discussed a few big ideas about how to move forward with our organizing efforts, and the need for an overarching strategy as we move forward This includes big ideas like how we structure communication channels/data sharing within the OC, contact grads, and the presence of staffers/work release members and what they do on the ground.
I think it's appropriate that we kick of this discussion with *an OC meeting explicitly focused on our strategy and structure moving forward, this Wednesday (10/4), 5:45 PM, Downtown Office*. A more complete agenda will be forthcoming but, we will be starting some pretty significant decisions and I want to urge everyone who can turn up to do so.
One final note - last campaign, there was (understandably) much frustration and concern about tactics, who decided them, and how they were executed. For these reasons, I'm dedicated to creating a transparent strategy with built-in opportunities for self-critique and adjustment, and that will be open to change in light of new information as we get it (from the member engagement series, input from individual experiences of activists, & so
on). I want to focus on a strategy that both centers grad activists and respects the culture & identity of each individual department or community on campus.
By design, this won't be the last chance to help develop our plans moving forward. However, I do hope to start making these decisions next week with you!
